Renovations

The objective is to increase the life expectancy of the home by fifteen years.

This program is subject to budget restrictions, as defined by the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs (INAC).

No monies are spent out of Band revenue for this program. This program is provided through a Contribution Agreement, through INAC. The Band must submit requests for all major renovations, which need to be approved for funding.

To be eligible for this program the Band Member must:

  • Own a house or a mobile home, or live in a Band house or Band mobile home on the Tk’emlúps Indian Band Reserve;
  • If it is a mobile home, the unit cannot be older than 25 years;
  • Meet all permit and licensing standards required by the Tk’emlúps Indian Band;
  • Your home requires major repairs in one or more of the following areas: structural, electrical, plumbing, fire, safety.

Process of getting approved for NORHA renovations:

  1.  You must write a letter addressing your concerns regarding your home and submit it to the NORHA Coordinator;
  2.  Your name is then approved by the Housing Committee;
  3.  A Band Council Resolution is drawn up and signed by the Tk’emlúps Indian Band's Chief and Council;
  4.  You will receive an inspection from a Certified Building Inspector appointed by the NORHA Coordinator;
  5.  If the NORHA Coordinator feels it necessary, an inspection from Health Canada;
  6.  The NORHA Coordinator then compiles a proposal that is then submitted to INAC; and
  7.  Once approved by INAC, the NORHA Coordinator will sit down with the homeowner and discuss the steps involved in completing the renovation.
