Tk’emlúps Indian Band continues development of the Chief Louis Landing

May 2009--Kamloops, British Columbia

Kamloops residents will soon be served by a new carwash. The Tk’emlúps Indian Band (TIB) has recently had a ground breaking ceremony to initiate construction on the new carwash just south of the Tk’emlúps Petroleum Station.

The carwash will be located on the Chief Louie Centre lands near the intersection of Highway 5 and East Shuswap Road. The carwash will be owned and operated by the TIB, and will further economic development opportunities for the band and provide employment for its members.

Economic Development Officer, Robert Corman says, “The carwash will feature six wand style bays and one fully automated bay. We have a wonderful #5 Highway location next to the Tk’emlúps Petroleum, it has a daily 20,000 vehicles drive by.

The nearby Sun Rivers development is expanding from 375 to 2,000 homes which should add significant customer base.”

The project has been in the works for the past 18 months. The grand opening is expected in May 2009.

This project is one of many planned for the Chief Louis landing area. The area already has the RCMP detachment and Tk’emlúps Petroleum. In addition the carwash, coffee shop and new Tk’emlúps Professional building are in development. Lots for several other projects are available in this area. Talks are on-going between TIB, Sun Rivers and the Ministry of Highways to re-align a portion of East Shuswap Road and provide new intersections with Highway #5 and Sun Rivers Estates.
