Collen Mosterd-McLean Bio

Colleen was recently elected for her second term on the Tk’emlúps te Secwepémc Band Council on November 10th, 2012. The previous three year term she served on Band Council was 1997-2000.

Education: Graduated from Kamloops Senior Secondary with a Dogwood Diploma in 1988; completed 3 years of a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Cariboo College with a special interest in Sociology and Psychology; Certificate in Fitness Theory & Exercise Physiology recognized by the BCRPA; Certificate for Volunteer Leader Training in Chronic Disease Self-Management Program from the University of Victoria; Fundamentals of Communicable Disease Control and Prevention from FNIHB and various educational instruction hours with the University of British Columbia Interprofessional Continuing Education focusing on childhood development, childhood and adolescent obesity and early childhood trauma.

Personal Life: Colleen was born in Merritt, BC where her father, Gerrit Mosterd, owned and operated Buckhorn Logging Company until a tragic logging accident in 1973 ended his young life.  After his death, Colleen’s mother, Marlene Jensen, along with her 4 children, returned to her homeland on the Tk’emlúps te Secwepémc Indian Reserve No.1. This is where Colleen and her brother Ed and two sisters, Jo-Anne and Dale spent the majority of their childhoods.  Colleen has been married to Dan McLean for 21 years; they have 2 children Hillary and Daniel and have made their home on Mohawk Crescent since 1994.

Political Goal: Improve the Social Determinants of Health for First Nations people.
